I have been very inspired to paint boats these last few weeks. Its funny how my interest bounce around from subject to subject. One thing I love about painting is that there are so many aspects to the craft. I sometimes spend a few days on color and harmony, others might be spent on brushwork and others on values or design. And these different subjects get more and more interesting, and sometimes more frustrating as they get more complex.

In this particular painting I was thinking about contrast mostly. I wanted the boat to be well rendered to some degree, while keeping everything else loose and abstract. The dark line dividing the horizon on the right is done in one stroke, while the grasses and and the sky are done in many. I am always trying to find new ways to make variations in my painting, and new ways to manipulate the brush and knife.
