Barmahlíð, 14 x 20, oil on linen

This is a landscape commission I just finished. It is essentially a portrait of a house the client used to live in. It was a bit of a challenge because the house was obscured by trees, so I had to move things around quite a bit. I found this painting to be challenging because the scene was not something I would normally have chosen to paint. So I put a lot of effort into the process of making it an interesting painting.

There was a very big pine tree in front of the house which I removed because I simply did not like the shape of it. Instead I used another tree from a different house in the street. I also substituted the trees that were blocking the view of the house with other trees from the street, and moved them to the left of the house. One could argue that this is then not the same scene. Well this is true, but, I am not there to copy the scene excatly. If there is something in the scene that is not working, then change it.
